You may ask, "Why does Nicholson Elementary School need a Foundation?" The answer is quite simple: The Foundation's main purpose is to support the school hand-in-hand with the PTA. The difference between the Foundation and the PTA is that the PTA is governed nationally and restricted in many ways as to how it can handle funds. The Foundation has greater flexibility in this regard. It can carry a substantial balance from year to year unlike the PTA. This is ultimately important when a large-scale project is being planned and fund-raising is occurring. For example, one of the Foundation's goals: the new gym floor, may take several years to raise funds. The PTA's restrictive budget will not allow more than a specific amount of money to be 'saved' into the next school year. THE FOUNDATION DESPERATELY NEEDS YOU!! Most of the 2011-2012 board members have reached the limit of their terms and will be rotating off in May of this year. Please consider contributing your time to this much-needed, worthwhile organization. Watch your child's folder for a blue flyer regarding the history, contributions, goals and needs of your school's foundation. The Foundation board will be holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 7pm in the Media Center for anyone interested in learning more about the Foundation. You are not obligated to a position or committee if you attend the meeting. It is strictly for information purposes.
