Now, two trends are combining to make the centers even more essential—the rising number of people covered by Medicaid and other health insurance as a result of the Affordable Care Act and expanded services ranging from pharmacies to dental clinics.

The Nicholson Foundation and Rutgers Team Up to Improve Health Care—$50,000 Award for Innovation

The Nicholson Foundation and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, are teaming up for a competition that they’re hoping can improve health care delivery for the better. The goal is to encourage healthcare entrepreneurship ideas.

The two-day event, titled “Health Care Delivery Idea-thon,” will take place on October 13 and October 27, 2014 on the Rutgers Douglas Campus. It will encourage teams of Rutgers faculty, students, and staff to brainstorm and create solutions for improving health care delivery and health outcomes in New Jersey.

Starting in January 15, New Jersey will begin to roll out its Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO) pilot program: its aim is to improve the accessibility and quality of care in low-income areas of the state—those with a minimum of 5,000 residents on Medicaid.

Since Governor Christie signed the bill in 2011, The Nicholson Foundation, a family foundation that works to promote healthcare delivery to New Jersey’s vulnerable populations, has been working to help.
