Founded in 1930, the American Academy of Pediatrics is a nonprofit, professional membership association representing more than 66,000 general pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, pediatric surgical specialists, and trainees. AAP is dedicated to promoting optimal health and well-being for every child as well as helping to ensure that Academy members practice the highest quality health care and experience professional satisfaction and personal well-being.

This project supports the planning phase of an initiative to promote healthy early child development in New Jersey through the establishment of a community health and advocacy collaborative among the pediatric residency programs in the state. Using a model developed from other collaboratives, this initiative fosters partnerships between the residency programs and early childhood organizations and professionals, promotes efforts to advance community-level efforts to meet local needs and improve the system of care and services for early childhood, and trains pediatricians and community-based organization leaders to effectively and collaboratively engage in systems change work.
